1. Age Limits

The age limits for different races are listed below:

The Hong Kong Association of Athletics Affiliates Limited (“the Organiser”) has the right to verify and request for verification of the age of participants before, during and after the Event.

2. Acceptance of Entries (Elite Entry)

Applicants of this category must meet the following corresponding time standards (Net Time) in races organised or sanctioned by the Organiser or the World Athletics (WA) or Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) between 1 January 2018 and 30 June 2021.

Applicants must submit proof confirming the qualification of the above to the Organiser at the time when they submit their applications. The entry will only be confirmed after relevant proofs have been verified by the Organiser.

Applicants registered through “Elite Entry” can only enter Elite Races of their selected distance (Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km). If qualified applicants wish to enter non-Elite races, they shall enter the race via “Public Ballot Entry” system.

Applicants failing to provide qualifying results before registration closes will be deemed to have withdrawn their application and such application will no longer be processed. The Organiser reserves the right to verify the submitted proof and to disqualify and take disciplinary action against any applicant who summits false or invalid information.

Results of Elite Entry will be notified by email to all relevant applicants from 2pm on 1 September 2021, Wednesday. The successful applicants may log onto the registration system to complete their online registration thereafter.

The Organiser also reserves the right to contact and interview an applicant by phone or through other means in order to obtain additional information required to substantiate his/her application.

3. Acceptance of Entries (Guaranteed Entry)

Guaranteed entry is on a ballot basis.

Results of ballot will be notified by email to all applicants from 2pm on 1 September 2021, Wednesday. Applicants may also login on to the Runner Dashboard to check their latest entry status thereafter.

Applicants who are not successful will automatically be placed into the Public Entry ballot. Such ballot results will be notified by email to all such applicants from 2pm on 10 September 2021, Friday. Applicants may also login on to the Runner Dashboard to check their application result thereafter.

Those who are eligible for the Guaranteed Entry can reserve their spot for the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2022, if they are unable to register for this year’s physical run.

No enquiries, whether by phone, e-mail or in writing, of entry status will be entertained before the announcement of the ballot results.

An applicant must ensure that his/her designated email is correct, valid, can receive notification from the Organiser and will continue to be in use. The Organiser accepts no responsibility for an applicant’s failure to receive email notifications by providing invalid email address.

Assignment of the race category and start time in which a participant shall compete shall be made by the Organiser at its sole discretion. In order to assist the Organiser in making such an assignment, applicants of Marathon race are required to provide in the registration form their past race records of any overseas or local (10km or above) races in the past 3 years and their estimated finishing time; for applicants of Half Marathon and 10km races, estimated finishing time should be provided.

No requests for change in category, race or start time will be entertained by the Organiser.

The Organiser reserves the right to take disciplinary action and disqualify any participant who fails to start in his/her designated category, race, and start time.

4. Acceptance of Entries (Public Balloting)

Public entry (except Elite Entry) is on a ballot basis.

Results of ballot will be notified to all applicants by email from 2pm on 10 September 2021, Friday. An applicant may also login on to the Runner Dashboard to check his/her entry status thereafter.

No enquiries, whether by phone, e-mail or in writing, of entry status will be entertained before the announcement of the ballot results.

5. Acceptance of Entries (Disability Entry)

Disability Entry is on a first-come-first-served basis. Such participants can select the race distance (Marathon, Half Marathon or 10km- same route courses as those for Public Balloting Entry). Assignment of race category and start time shall be made by the Organiser at its sole discretion.

Applicants must submit a valid “Registration Card for People with Disabilities” issued by HKSAR Government at the time of submitting their application. Both sides of the document must be presented for verification by the Organiser. An applicant failing to do so before the application deadline will be considered as forfeiting the submission and the application will be withdrawn without further notice. The Organiser reserves the right to verify the submitted proof and to disqualify and take disciplinary action against any applicant who submits false or invalid information.

The application result of this entry will be announced by email starting from 2pm on 10 September 2021 (Friday) The successful applicants may also log onto the registration system to complete their online registration thereafter.

The Organiser also reserves the right to contact and interview an applicant by phone or through other means in order to obtain additional information required to substantiate his/her application.

Visually impaired runners – After a visually impaired runner has been accepted to participate in a race, registration of his/her guide runner can be completed between 10 September 2021 (Friday) and 14 September 2021 (Tuesday). The registration information will be sent to the visually impaired runner by email. The guide runner will be assigned to the same race as his/her visually impaired partner.

Participants of this Entry must be able to participate without use of any external auxiliary equipment in the race, expect for prosthetic limb(s).

6. Entry Fee

The entry fees of each race category are listed below:

(a) Local Participant – A holder of valid a) Hong Kong Identity Card and registers using the Hong Kong Identity Card.

(b) Overseas Participant – Any person who does not qualify as a Local Participant.

It is the sole responsibility of an applicant to ensure that payment of the entry fee is made through the official payment channel designated by the Organiser within the prescribed times. No reminder for payment will be made to any applicant and an applicant who fails to pay the entry fee as aforesaid will be deemed to have withdrawn his/her application and such applications will no longer be processed. No request for extension of time for payment or change of payment method will be entertained. Save as provided below, entry fee, once submitted, is non-reversible and non-refundable. No application shall be considered as completed until the appropriate entry fee shall have been received by the Organiser.

An applicant can only withdraw and request for refund due to medical reasons and such request for refund must be made in writing on or before Thursday 21 October 2021 to Marathon Registration and Runners’ Communication Office, along with relevant medical documents (via email to [email protected]) issued by a medical practitioner (registered with The Medical Council of Hong Kong or overseas Governmental medical authorities). An administration charge of HK$100 will be deducted from each refund, and the remaining entry fee will be refunded to the applicant by cheque and via mail two months after the Event.

7. Anti-pandemic Requirement

As required by the HKSAR Government, all runners participating in the physical run are required to do the following which are also subject to any other latest requirements from the HKSAR Government:

  • To have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine recognised by the HKSAR Government on or before 10 October, i.e. at least 14 days before the race;
  • Conduct a Nucleic acid test for COVID-19 recognised by the government within 72 hours before race day;
  • Collect the runner’s pack in person at the designated locations assigned by the Organiser;
  • Submit a completed Health Declaration Form on the day collecting the runner’s pack confirming they have not been in other places outside Hong Kong in the past 21 days;

Organiser will check the vaccination record and the completed Health Declaration Form when participants collect their runner’s packs. Runners who fail to present the vaccination proof and the Health Declaration Form duly completed will not be allowed to collect their runner wristband, runner’s pack and race bibs (collectively “Runner’s Pack”). They will not therefore be able to participate in the race and no entry fee will be refunded.

Organisers will conduct temperature checks and carry out the latest anti-pandemic requirements from the HKSAR Government on the race day. Runners must wear their designated runner wristband and race bib to participate in the race. Runners who fail to properly wear their wristband and race bib or who fail the temperature check or who fail to comply with latest anti-pandemic requirements will not be allowed to participate in the race and no entry fees will be refunded.

Overseas runners should refer to the latest quarantine requirements of the HKSAR Government and make necessary arrangements themselves accordingly.

8. Duplicate Entries

An applicant can submit one application only for the Event. It is the applicant’s own responsibility to ensure that he/she submits only one application. An applicant who has made an application in any one race shall not be allowed to make application in any other races. All duplicate applications or registrations will be rejected or cancelled by the Organiser without prior notice. No entry fee will be refunded and redeeming the runner’s pack will not be entertained.

9. Terms & Conditions and Official Rules

Upon submitting his/her application and payment of the entry fee, an applicant declares that he/she agrees to and accept these Terms & Conditions, the Official Competition Rules and all other rules and regulations which may be adopted by the Organiser from time to time.

10. Physical and Health Conditions

Participants should be aware of and understand the risks involved in taking part in his/her race, and acknowledge the degree of fitness required to take part therein.

Any person who is pregnant or suffering from any chronic disease such as heart disease or high blood pressure or is suffering from or has any symptoms of COVID-19 or other contagious disease should not participate in the Event. The Organiser reserves the right to disallow / disqualify any person who is known to have any such condition. The Organiser at its sole discretion also has the right to suspend any participant who appears or is suspected to be physically unfit or suffering from or having any symptoms of COVID-19 or other contagious disease to participate in the Event.

All participants are urged to seek medical advice of his/her physical condition before participating in the Event. By submitting his / her application to take part in the Event and subsequently taking part in the Event, a participant

  1. warrants and confirms to the Organiser that he/she is physically fit to participate in and complete his/her race without any medical or other assistance and that he/she is not suffering from and does not have any symptoms of COVID-19 and other contagious disease; and
  2. agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Organiser from all losses and damages from

a) any injury or death suffered by the participant himself/herself or any other persons; and

b) any damage to property; and

c) any other participants or officials and staff of the Organiser contracting COVID-19 or any other contagious disease as a result of him/her not being physically fit to participate in and complete the race or him/her suffering from COVID-19 or other contagious disease.

11. Runner’s Pack Collection

Participants are required to collect his/her Runner’s Pack within the official collection period on the 21 October 2021 to 23 October 2021 at the designated Runner’s Pack Collection location, the Organiser reserves the right to revoke participants’ right to collect the Runner’s Pack (including race wristband and Race Bib) without prior notice. The Organiser also reserves the right to revoke participants’ right to collect his/her Runner’s Pack (including race wristband and Race Bib) after the official close time of the collection period.

Organiser will check the vaccination record and completed Health Declaration Form when participants collect their runner’s packs. Runners who fail to present the vaccination proof and the completed Health Declaration Form will not be allowed to collect their runner wristband, runner’s pack and race bibs. They will not therefore be able to participate in the race and no entry fee will be refunded.

12. Route Alteration

The Organiser reserves the right to change or alter any parts of the running route before and during the race without prior notice in the event of unexpected road conditions or emergency. A race may be temporarily suspended for emergency or any other incidents during the race. Participants must follow the instructions of race officials or any law enforcement officers on site in the event of emergency or any incident.

13. Instructions Given by Race Officials

Instructions given by the Organiser and race officials must be followed. The Organiser reserves the right to reject future applications of a participant who has refused to follow instructions of the race officials for all future Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathons and other races organised by the Organiser.

14. General Rules

Race officials reserve the right to ask a participant to leave the race course immediately, in case he/she is found using any external auxiliary equipment during the race, expect for prosthetic limb(s).

Participation in the Event is personal to the applicant and all applicants are strictly prohibited from swapping, selling, auctioning, transferring or offering to swap, sell, auction or transfer their successful entry or their place in the Event or allow or permit any other person to wear his/her bib number allocated to him/her. Any breach of this rule shall render the entry void and both the guilty applicant, and the substituted participant shall be subject to disciplinary action by the Organiser including exclusion from participation in future races organised by the Organiser.

15. Results

Official Times and Net Times will be provided to participants who have completed in the designated elite races within the specified time limit with valid race number bibs. Net Times will be provided to participants who have completed in other designated races within the specified time limit with valid race number bibs. Split Times may be provided and if so, they are for reference only.

16. Disqualification

The Organiser reserves the right to disqualify any person and nullify his or her result due to any violation, breach or non-observance of any rules, laws or regulations in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, World Athletics (WA) Competition Rules or the Official Competition Rules set for the Event. The Organiser shall not be obliged to refund any entry fee under such circumstance.

17. Awards, Finisher Medal and Certificates

Only participants of the Marathon Elite race, Half Marathon Elite race and 10km Elite races will be entitled to compete for awards. Official Times will be used to determine the positions of each race. Progress Award Certificates will be issued to runners with qualified Official Times in all races and categories.

Finisher Medal and Certificates of Achievement will be issued to runners with qualified Net Times in all races and categories.

Participants failing to start the race in the designated start times, in the assigned race category, or failing to complete the race (including participants boarding the Official Bus), shall not be entitled to any awards, certificates or finisher medals.

18. Event Cancellation

Should the Event be cancelled due to weather or other circumstances beyond the control of the Organiser or in the case of a force majeure resulting in the Event being cancelled on or before 10 October 2021 (i.e. 14 or more days to the race date), a refund of half of the entry fee will be made. The Organiser shall have no other responsibilities and/or liabilities in relation to such cancellation.

Should the Event be cancelled due to weather or other circumstances beyond the control of the Organiser or in the case of a force majeure resulting in the Event being cancelled after 10 October 2021 (i.e. within 14 days to the race date), no refund of the entry fee will be made. The Organiser shall have no other responsibilities and/or liabilities in relation to such cancellation.

Force Majeure
Includes and is not limited to the Organiser being unable to perform its obligations or organise or hold the Event due to fire, flood, earthquake, or other severe natural disaster or act of God; or due to protest, riot, civil disobedience, uprising, march, revolt, assembly, demonstration, occupation, commotion, mass gathering, war, terrorist, insurrection, sabotage, epidemic, pandemic, COVID-19 or other similar contagious disease or government intervention or prohibition or the likelihood of such event or act.

19. Weather

The Organiser may cancel the Event if tropical cyclone warning signal no.3 or above, or if a red or black rainstorm signal is hoisted by the Hong Kong Observatory at 3:00 am or thereafter on the race day (24 October 2021, Sunday). Please pay special attention to the weather forecast the night before the Event as it will indicate whether tropical cyclone warning signals, red or black rainstorm signals are likely to be hoisted in the forthcoming period. Please follow updates on the radio or TV announcements regarding the status of the Event from 3:00 am onwards.

20. Languages

Terms and Conditions are in Chinese and English. In the case of discrepancies between the Chinese and English versions, the English version shall prevail. The Organiser reserves the right to interpret and amend the above rules.
