TOP CHEF, PROFESSIONAL NUTRITIONIST, FAMOUS RADIO DJ TEAM UP TO UNVEIL STANDARD CHARTERED HONG KONG MARATHON 2010 “RECIPES FOR SUCCESS”

[Hong Kong, 7 January 2010]: Famous chef Walter Kei, popular radio DJ Kitty Yuen and nutritionist Leslie Chan today served up to local media and sports fans a course in maintaining a proper diet for the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2010, which will take place on 28 February. During the event, Walter, Kitty and Leslie demonstrated how to prepare a number of recipes that not only taste great, but also provide excellent dietary and performance benefits that can help runners perform better on the big day.

With DJ Kitty leading the event, Ms. Solo Chan, the winner of the Marathon recipe competition, demonstrated how to prepare her winning dishes: the “Speedy Rice Burger”, a delicious beef and egg rice concoction, and the “Liquid Powerhouse”, a refreshing drink of banana blended together with skimmed milk and soy powder. Yuen then helped Kei prepare his own “recipe for success” dishes, including “Chicken Run”, a chicken skewer dish; “Ocean’s Heaven”, or prawn soba noodles; and “Tropic Wonder”, a healthy banana muffin.

Each recipe was concocted with specific nutritional benefits for the serious and casual runners in mind. For example, chicken is a low-fat source of protein that can fuel muscles and also help rid the body of excess water. Soba noodles are easy to digest and provide the body with valuable carbohydrates to fuel exercise. And even a well-prepared treat like a banana muffin can help the body replace starches following training or a race.

Kei said, “Many Marathon participants think that preparation is all about physical training. But the truth is, proper diet also plays a crucial role because it supplies the energy runners need to produce a good result. The dishes we demonstrated today all provide great nutritional value—and they’re tasty too!”

Speaking about the nutritional value of the dishes unveiled at today’s event, Chan commented, “These energy-boosting dishes can really enhance runners’ fitness training because they contain ingredients that have been proven to greatly assist athletic performance and general health. No matter their experience or skill level, it’s especially important for runners to stick to a diet containing adequate, easy-to-digest amounts of vegetables, protein sources and cereals. Also, the dishes we have seen today are all simple to prepare.”
