MARATHON CLINIC IN FULL GEAR TO TRAIN RUNNERS FOR STANDARD CHARTERED HONG KONG MARATHON

To help all the people who are ready to realise their aspirations of running in the 13th Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon on 8 February 2009, the Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association (HKAAA) has launched a great new place to get started.

The Marathon Clinic, a package training course developed jointly by the HKAAA and the Department of Rehabilitation Science at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, welcomes the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon runners to assess their physical fitness, take part in pre-race training, hone their form and map out strategies for the Marathon. The content of the Marathon Clinic package course is by far the most comprehensive of all pre-Marathon training courses run by the HKAAA before.

“Proper training is the first and most important step for anyone who is serious about partaking in a long-distance run”, said William Ko, Chairman of the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2009 Organising Committee. “Training enables people to acquire the fitness and skill levels needed to enjoy and appreciate the full value of running, and that is what the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon is for.”

The Marathon Clinic package course comprises five parts: pre-training assessment of a participant’s aerobic fitness, muscular strength and endurance, body composition and flexibility; body load; advice on ways to avoid injuries; running form; and the design of a personal training profile. Moreover, physiotherapists of Polytechnic University will follow up with each participant’s training profile until and after the Marathon. Participants may also enjoy professional input from Marathon sponsors Watsons Water, New Balance and PURE Fitness on different aspects of professional running to complement their training.

Registration for the Marathon Clinic has commenced for Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon participants and will soon close on 25 October 2008. The cost for the Beginner and Immediate training course is HK$300 and HK$600 respectively. Entry forms are available on the Marathon’s official website at http://www.hkmarathon.com.
