Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2008
Celebrates Success of Local Runners

[Hong Kong, 18 March 2008]: Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited offered a special prize purse of HK$256,000 to local Hong Kong runners in the Standard Chartered Marathon, Half-Marathon and 10km race – aiming to encourage the further development of local runners. The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2008 was successfully held on 17 February 2008, attracting about 50,000 registered runners.

All of the winning local runners were in attendance at today’s Local Runners Prize Presentation, which was officiated by Mr Benjamin Hung, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited; Mr Alex Moh, President of Hong Kong Amateur Athletics Association and senior management of Standard Chartered Bank.

At the ceremony, Standard Chartered presented Special Prize Money to the first three Permanent Hong Kong Residents to cross the finish line in each of the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10km Races. The first three runners in the Full Marathon won HK$6,000, HK$4,000 and HK$2,000, respectively; the first three runners in the Half Marathon won HK$3,000, HK$2,000 and HK$1,000, respectively; and the first three runners in 10km race won HK$1,500, HK$1,000 and HK$500, respectively.

Standard Chartered also presented the “Special Incentive Award” this afternoon to Permanent Hong Kong Resident runners who finished the Full Marathon in 3:00:00 or under (for men) and 3:30:00 or under (for women). This year, a total of 52 local athletes won this special HK$1,000 prize, including 37 male and 15 female runners – up from last year’s 18 male and 10 female winners.

Among the winners were the Men and Women’s Marathon overall local champions, Mr Lai Hok Yan and Ms Wong Siu Ping, who also received each a Standard Chartered Marathon Savings Account credited with HK$30,000 as part of the special Standard Chartered Marathon Savings Challenge Award.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, Mr Benjamin Hung, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, said: “We are delighted and proud to present awards to the outstanding local runners in the 2008 Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon. The increasing number of athletes participating in and winning the Special Incentive Award indicates that Standard Chartered is achieving our goal of encouraging a healthy lifestyle for the local community through our sponsorship of the Hong Kong Marathon.”

Mr Hung concluded, “We would like to extend our gratitude to the Hong Kong Amateur Athletics Association, our overseas and local runners, as well as the Hong Kong community, for their continued support of the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon.”

About the 2008 Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon

The 2008 Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon was held on Sunday, 17 February 2008. The Marathon is Hong Kong’s largest participatory sporting competition and has set another record this year with nearly 50,000 registered runners. Standard Chartered Hong Kong is in its 12th year of title sponsorship to the Marathon.
