Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2007
Announcement Press Conference
Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends from the Media,
Welcome and thank you for attending today's
press conference to announce the 2007 Standard Chartered Hong
Kong Marathon.
This is the 11th year that Standard
Chartered has sponsored the Hong Kong Marathon, and we are
proud to be supporting Hong Kong's largest participatory sporting
event which has attracted the passion and involvement of the
local community, the government, our staff and elite runners
from around the world.
As we enter our second decade of Marathon
sponsorship, we're delighted to be working together with the
Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association to unveil Marathon
101: a comprehensive education programme designed to teach
the important of healthy living and an active lifestyle from
an early age. With the support of the Hong Kong SAR Government's
Education and Manpower Bureau, we are rolling out Marathon
101 in partnership with 10 pilot schools - and we are looking
forward to increasing our reach to more and more students
over the coming years.
People of all ages can benefit from a healthy
and active lifestyle, and Marathon 101 is open to all members
of the community who are interested in achieving a balanced
lifestyle. To help us reach beyond Hong Kong's schools, we
are launching a dedicated website, www.marathon101.com.hk,
in November - with a goal of bringing the Marathon lifestyle
to everyone in the community.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable marathon for
all participants, we are hosting a series of training clinics
over the next few months - helping runners of all levels to
achieve their personal best at the Standard Chartered Marathon.
I'm also pleased to announce that for
the third year in a row, the Standard Chartered Marathon in
Hong Kong will serve as the final leg of The Greatest Race
on Earth - Standard Chartered's unique international
marathon relay race spanning Nairobi, Singapore, Mumbai and
Hong Kong. Several of the elite runners competing in The Greatest
Race on Earth are here with us today, and I want to take this
opportunity to wish all of them the best of luck in this year's
event.
Before I close, I want to thank our partners
at the HKAAA for helping us to grow the Standard chartered
Hong Kong Marathon into one of the world's largest marathons;
and I also want to thank the thousands of runners, volunteers,
staff and supporters who have helped to make our Marathon
one of Hong Kong's most visible international sporting
events.
Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you
at the starting line on 4th March 2007!
