The Persia army landed on the plain of Marathon, a civilized
city near Athens, with blood and terror in 490 B.C. All
Athenians were mobilized to fight for the culture and independence
of the Greek. In defense of the country, the Athenians sent
a messenger named Philippides to Sparta to get help. Finally,
he completed his task in less than two days to cover about
150 miles.
It is believed that Philippides delivered the news of this
victory from Athens to Sparta by the same route. This remarkable
nationalist died however, when he reached his designation
after crying "Rejoice! We conquer!". Although,
according to historians, the story of Philippides is just
a legend, it is believe that this is the beginning of ......
a Marathon Race.
