Entry Procedures
Please download the entry HERE, complete and submit it together with the following documents on or before 30 November 2011 to the Marathon Secretariat (P. O .Box 79494, Mongkok Post Office, Kowloon, Hong Kong). Please note for the Qualification of Entry. Payment can be made by one of the following methods:
1) Payment by Credit Card (VISA / MASTER CARD)
Please fill in your credit card details on the entry form (credit card must be valid through April 2012 ).
e-link card will not be accepted
2) Payment by Cheque
A crossed cheque made payable to the “Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association Limited” should be submitted with completed entry form (participant’s name and HKID / Passport No. should be written on the back of the cheque). Cheque payments are subject to successful transaction.
3) Cash Deposit in Bank
Please deposit the entry fee to the following Standard Chartered Bank account:

 Important Notice

  • Participants are advised to read the following Important Notice and Terms & Conditions carefully before submitting the entry form.
  • Participants who want to amend or enquire about their personal information on their entry should contact the Marathon Secretariat.
  • Participants are advised to undertake adequate training before the event.
  • Participants are advised to solicit medical advice from doctor if they are in doubt of their health condition prior to taking part in the race.
 
Qualification of Entry

Full Marathon Wheelchair Event

  • Full Marathon Wheelchair Event participants must be 20 years old or above.
  • Participants must submit 1) a registration card for persons with disabilities or 2) medical certificate issued by professional doctor or 3) proofs issued by government to prove of their physical disabilities, for the approval of the organizer.
  • Participants must submit the certificate of T53 or T54 issued by International Paralympic Committee (IPC)

3km Wheelchair Event

  • 3km Wheelchair Event participants must be 16 years old or above.
  • Participants must submit 1) a registration card for persons with disabilities or 2) medical certificate issued by professional doctor or 3) proofs issued by government to prove of their physical disabilities, for the approval of the organizer.
  • Applicants of 3km Wheelchair Event must attend the “Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2012 – 3km Wheelchair Track Trial” on 18 December 2011 with the same manual wheelchair to be used on 5 February 2012. Applicants must completed a 3 km race on flat surface within 30 minutes plus a short ramp of 120 meters within 3 minutes to qualify for entries to the 3 km wheelchair event on 5 February 2012. Those who enter but did not show up in the Trial will NOT be allowed to take part in the 3 km wheelchair event on 5 February 2012, and entry fee paid will not be refunded. Applicants will be notified individually for details of the 3km Wheelchair Track Trial on or before 7 December 2011.

 

Regulations for Wheelchairs

Full Marathon Wheelchair Event
Regulations for wheelchairs (extract from International Paralympic Committee rules. The English version of these Terms shall prevail over Chinese translated versions thereof in the event of any inconsistency).

  • The wheelchair shall have two (2) large wheels and one (1) small wheel. In all competitions the small wheel(s) must be at the front of the chair.
  • No part of the body of the chair may extend forwards beyond the hub of the front wheel and be wider than the inside of the hubs of the two rear wheels. The maximum height from the ground of the main body of the chair shall be 50 cm.
  • No part of the wheelchair may protrude behind the vertical plane of the back edge of the rear tyres.
  • The maximum diameter of the large wheel including the inflated tire shall not exceed 70 cm. The maximum diameter of the small wheel including the inflated tire shall not exceed 50 cm.
  • Only one plain, round, push-rim is allowed for each large wheel. This rule may be waived for persons requiring a single arm drive chair.
  • No mechanical gears or levers shall be allowed, that may propel the chair.
  • Only hand-operated, mechanical steering devices will be allowed.
  • The participant must be able to turn the front wheel(s) manually both to the left and the right.
  • The use of mirrors is not permitted during the race.
  •  The wearing of a race helmet is compulsory.

 

Wheelchairs will be measured and inspected prior to the start of the race at the assembly area and wheelchair participants will be escorted to the starting area by the race officials. Wheelchairs can be re-examined by the officials before or after the event.

Participants must ensure that no part of their lower limbs can fall to the ground or track during the event.

It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure that their wheelchair conforms to the requirements stipulated above. The events shall not be delayed while a participant makes adjustments to their wheelchair.

Participants must take into account the safety of other participants on the route.

The appointed Technical Officials shall rule on the safety of the wheelchair and the participant using it.

3km Wheelchair Event
For the wheelchairs participants who have successfully qualified for the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2012 – 3,000m Wheelchair Track Trial on 18th December 2011, and at the same time conform to the requirements below, will be able to participate for the 3km Wheelchair Event:

    • No mechanical gears or levers shall be allowed, that may propel the chair.
    • Only hand-operated, mechanical steering devices will be allowed.
    • The participant must be able to turn the front wheel(s) manually both to the left and the right.
    • The use of mirrors is not permitted during the race.

Collection of Race Numbers & Timing Chips

Notification letters will be sent by post to 3km Wheelchair Event applicants on or before 7 December 2011 regarding the arrangement for the “Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2012 – 3,000m Wheelchair Track Trial”.

Acceptance letters will be sent by post to all successful participants (Full Marathon and qualified 3km Wheelchair Event) on or before 10 January 2012.

Participants MUST bring their wheelchairs and the original acceptance letters to attend the wheelchair event briefing on 3 February 2012 at Victoria Park. Participants will collect their race number cloth and timing chips on that day. Wheelchairs will be measured and inspected if they meet the requirements by the Organizer.

 
NO Race Number Cloth, Timing Chip or Souvenir will be distributed on Race Day


Runner’s Guide

Runners’ Guide and a supplement on Full Marathon Wheelchair Event and 3km Wheelchair Event will be distributed during the runners’ pack collection date on 3 February 2012. Please read it carefully before the event day.

Terms & Conditions
  • Full Marathon Wheelchair Event participants must be 20 years old or above, 3km Wheelchair Event participants must be 16 years old or above. The Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association Limited (the Organizer) has the right to verify ages of Wheelchair participants before, during and after the race.
  • Completed Entry Forms must be received no later than 30 November 2011 – the final deadline. Entry is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • The Organizer reserves the right to close entries before deadline without any notice once the race is full. The Organizer reserves the right to limit and refuse entries without reason.
  • Participants of either Wheelchair Event must submit medical certificates issued by medical practitioner or government to prove their physical disabilities while submitting the application.
  • Participants applying to take part in the Full Marathon Wheelchair Event must submit the certificate of T53 or T54 issued by International Paralympic Committee (IPC) while submitting the application.
  • The Organizer reserves the right to contact and interview applicants by phone or otherwise, for additional information required for matters relating to their applications.
  • Entry fee will only be refunded to the applicants who fail to qualify for the 3km Wheelchair Event from the “Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon – 3000m Wheelchair Track Trial” by mail before 31 January 2012. For any other cases, entry fee is non-refundable. The Organizer reserves the right to refuse entry to any applicant who provides false information, does not make the required payment, or fails to meet entry requirements as stated on the Entry Form.
  • Wheelchairs of Full Marathon Wheelchairs Event and qualified 3km Wheelchair Event will be inspected on 3 February 2012 at Victoria Park. Runner’s Pack will be distributed. All participants MUST show up in person.
  • Wheelchairs to be used by the wheelchair participants must meet with the official standards and specifications. Measurement, inspection and confirmation of wheelchairs will be made prior to the start on the event day. Wheelchair participants will be stopped or disqualified if they are found to use sub standard wheelchairs.
  • Full Marathon & 3km Wheelchair Events will be mixed competitions where both male and female participants will compete at the same time. No award/prize will be offered to either event.
  • Any person who is pregnant or suffering from any chronic disease such as heart disease or high blood pressure should not participate in the event. The Organizer reserves the right to disallow / disqualify any person who is known or suspected to be physically unfit to participate in the event. The Organizer also reserves the right to disqualify any person and/or nullify his or her result for any violation, breach or non-observance of any IAAF / IPC rules or regulations. The Organizer shall not be obliged to refund any entry fee for such disallowed / disqualified person. All wheelchair participants must ensure that they are medically and physically fit to participate in the race.
  • Number cloth and timing chip are non-transferable.
  • No other persons or pets are allowed to accompany wheelchair participants during the race.
  • The Organizer reserves the right to disqualify or exclude any person from competition who gives incorrect personal data / details on the entry form, who has been banned from competition under IAAF / IPC jurisdictions or who is suspected of having taken banned substances. No refund of entry fee will be made.
  • Participants must start at the designated starting points and compete during the stipulated race times for the Wheelchair event. Participants will be disqualified and removed from the route if they do not start at the designated starting points and complete the event in the given event time assigned to these events by the Organizer.
  • Should the event be cancelled on race day, a refund of 50% of the entry fee will be made before 30 April 2012 and the Organizer shall have no further responsibility thereafter.
  • To ensure that subsequent races commence on time and are not affected, participants who cannot reach the following checkpoints within the given times shall be asked to retire from the race. They shall be required to board the official vehicles and return to the finish area.

  • The Organizer reserves the right and has the authority to stop the race if a collision involving participants in the race occurs in the first 50m after the start.
  • Any wheelchair patrticipant who intentionally interferes with, or comes into contact with other wheelchairs participants, (or their wheelchairs) during the race will be disqualified.
  • Only the race officials are permitted to assist a participant in case of a crash or tumble during the race. Participants will be disqualified if they are assisted in any manner that can influence the race results to their advantage.
  • Wheelchair participants must retire from the race immediately, if asked / requested to do so by any member of the race officials, medical staff, race director, referees, marshals and /or security officers. In this instance, their decision will be final in all matters.
  • The wearing of a race helmet is compulsory.
  • Participants must take into account the safety of other participants on the route .
  • Number cloth should be put on the front of the helmet. Every participant shall be provided with an additional number cloth to be put visibly on the back of their wheelchair.
  • The wearing of a timing chip is compulsory. NO Chip NO Time.
  • By submitting his or her entry, each applicant agrees to obey and accept all the terms and conditions of participation as contained herein.

In case of discrepancies between the Chinese and English versions, the English version shall prevail.
