The official timing system – ChampionChip will be used in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2012.

Single-use White Timing Chips are first introduced this year. Each participant will be given a White Timing Chip. Participants DO NOT need to pay deposit and NO RETURN is needed. Participants can keep it after the race except those participants using Yellow Chips.

ChampionChip is a miniature transponder in a specially designed plastic housing, this device contains a chip in combination with an energizing coil. These elements are encased in a waterproof glass capsule and have it own identification number. There are no batteries in the chip. The transponder is activated when it moves to a magnetic field, generated by a send antenna in the antenna mats. The transponder then transmits its unique identification number to a receive antenna which is also located in the antenna mats.

What are the advantages for runners?

  • Fast and accurate result for each runner *
  • Net times: the ChampionChip can register every individual start time, even when participants are at the back of the pack

* No time will be given for those who failed to cross start and finish lines and designed timing locations.

Remarks: NO CHIP NO TIME

Each participants will be given Single-use White Timing Chips (expect those participants using their own yellow chips).

It is important for Yellow Chip owner to write his/her Chip Number clearly on the Entry Form for maintaining proper and accurate time keeping. The organizer will not be responsible for any time keeping for those participants who provide with incorrect yellow chip.
