I) Timing & Results

  1. What race timing system will be used?

    Champion Chip Timing System will be used to provide official and personal times. Results will be based on the Official Times (Gun Times) in accordance with IAAF Standards. Each participant will be provided with a Single-use White Chip for timing purposes unless he / she is a yellow chip owner (yellow chip is personal chip).

  2. May I use my own timing chip?

    Yes. You can use your own Yellow Chip for timing purpose, but you must fill in the chip code on the entry form. The Organizer will not be responsible for any time keeping for those participants who provide incorrect yellow chip numbers on the entry forms. If you prefer using your own chip, the Organizer will not provide you the single-use white timing chip.

  3. Can I get another timing chip on Race Day if I left it at home or lost it?

    No. There will be no chip exchanged or replacements made on race day.

    No Chip = No Time = No Result

  4. Can I switch chips with another participant?

    No. Chips are individually coded and non-transferable. Please do not switch chips or allow another participant to run with your chip, as both you and the other runner using your chip will be disqualified.

  5. Do I need to return my White Timing Chip?

    No. Single-use White Timing Chips are first introduced in this event. You can keep the White Timing Chip after the race.

  6. 6) Can I keep the White Timing Chip and use it at another timed event?

    No. The White Timing Chip you are using is unique and can only be used in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2012 event. Chip cannot be used in other races.

  7. Do I get official split times?

    Yes. For Full Marathon only, split times will be recorded at 10 km, Half-way and at 30 km of the full marathon race. These will be printed on the finisher's certificates and published on the Marathon website together with your finishing time / position.

  8. I join in 10km / Half Marathon, do I get official split times and position?

    No. Split times will only be provided for Full Marathon. No position, but only official times will be provided to Full Marathon Run 1, Half Marathon Run 1, Run 2, Run 3, 10km Run 1, Run 2, Run 3, Run 4 and Run 5.

  9. When and where can I check my result?

    The list of winners can be checked on the result board at finishing area on race day. Full results will be announced on 7 February 2012 after 12:00 noon at www.hkmarathon.com. You can also check your result through our hotline (2577 0800 Press 1 -> 7) by entering the first 6 digits of your ID number from 7 February 2012 after 12:00 noon onwards.

  10. What should I do if I have doubt about race result?

    Should you have any query on your personal results, kindly mail to hkmarathon@hkaaa.com or fax at (852) 2367 6166 within 7 days after the race (before 12 February 2012, 12:00 noon).

  11. If I run beyond the time limit, what will happen to my result?

    According to the race regulations, your result will not be published on the website and no certificate will be issued.

  12. If I register for the Marathon and I can only manage the Half Marathon on race day, can I still get the Half Marathon's Result and Certificate?

    No. Race category and distance are non-transferable. You will neither get the result nor the certificate and you shall be disqualified.

  13. What is the different between Official Time (Gun Time) and Chip Time (Net Time)?

    Official Time (Gun Time): The time from the sound of the starter's signal to the time when you cross the finish line.

    Chip Time (Net Time): The time from when you cross the starting mats at the start line, to the time when you cross the finishing mats at the Finish. Chip time is for personal reference only.

  14. When will finisher's certificates be mailed?

    By the end of March, the finisher's certificates will be mailed to all finishers who finished within the time limit specified in each race and have recorded both the official and net times.
