The Half Marathon and 10KM races will accommodate 21,500 and 35,000 runners respectively;
The new route used last year – the iconic Nathan Road in Kowloon –will be featured again for the Marathon and the Half Marathon in 2017; and will once again offer runners a truly unique Hong Kong experience. It will also provide more room for supporters to cheer on the runners.
Mr Alex Moh, President of the Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association, said, “In recent years, as the Organiser has been encouraging runners to upgrade to and challenge themselves by competing in races that are longer than 10KM, we have seen a significant improvement in the abilities and performances of participants from the general public. In view of this, the enrolment quota for the Half Marathon category has been slightly re-adjusted and transferred, to allow more runners to participate in the 42.195KM Marathon races. Together with other new arrangements, we hope to enhance the overall quality of the Marathon.”
Ms May Tan, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank(Hong Kong) Limited, said, “Being the title sponsor of this wonderful event has been very rewarding, as we’ve witnessed how the Marathon has evolved from just a local race into a signature Hong Kong event that brings positivity to our city,inspires people with the ‘marathon spirit’ and unites people to do good. One of the most direct ways that the Marathon can benefit the community is through our support of our charity partners. “Together, We Run Further”, and I look forward to creating another meaningful Marathon with you, and filling the city with positivity.”
